Take some prairie dust, add some oil, and throw in a hearty "Yahoo!" and you have the ingredients for what became the fastest growing city in Canada. Calgary, Alberta has been home to generations of optimists...where the impossible just takes a little bit longer to accomplish!
Not a traditional historical documentary, Calgary Remembered is the social history of the community as told by the people who lived it. Your host is singular Songwriter James Keelaghan. You will also hear Keelaghan singing the program's title song, the"Bow River Waltz" - a tune he wrote and performed exclusively for this production.
Calgary Remembered covers the 50 middle years of the 20th century – during Which Calgary survived The Great Depression, sent its sons and daughters off to war, and welcomed the world's best athletes to the Olympic Winter Games. Some specific memories touched on our streetcars, Bowness Park, Penley Dance Academy, Crystal Rink and Pool, Calgary Stampede, Buck Shot, and Benny, Calgary Zoo and Dinny, the Palliser Hotel and the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
