Christopher Walker:
The man who penned “Celtic Alleluia” and “The Lord Is My Light” is one of the Church’s most prolific and versatile composers. From Latin hymns for papal Masses to collections for children, his music touches the heart of every generation.
Bio:
An internationally known lecturer and choral conductor, Christopher Walker is also one of the Church’s most prolific and versatile composers. Born and educated in England, he earned his degree in music from Bristol University. He served as director of music at Clifton Cathedral in Bristol and the Clifton Diocese. He has appeared on BBC TV and radio and his music is frequently played on BBC.

His extensive oeuvre includes such well-known works as the “Celtic Alleluia,” from the iconic Celtic Mass, “The Lord Is My Light” and “Laudate, Laudate Dominum,” which was sung at the Papal Mass during Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, DC, in 2015. Recently composed Mass settings include Belmont Mass and Mass of St. Paul the Apostle. The collection Love Beyond Knowledge includes powerful hymns and the striking Gaelic Mass setting. Christopher has also published many collections for children in collaboration with Daughter of Charity Sister Paule Freeburg, including Stories and Songs of Jesus (Many More Stories and Songs of Jesus was released in 2015).

Christopher’s inspiration for composing music is the hope that it sparks faith in people and encourages them to carry on. He was named the NPM Pastoral Musician of the Year in 2012. His wide-ranging experience makes him a versatile presenter for the parish and school events. His talks and workshops focus on liturgy, music and children’s worship.

Christopher resides in Santa Monica, California, and directs music at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Los Angeles, where he has served since 2000.
