Cretan-Style Archangel Gabriel Icon
11" x 14" Print With Lumina Gold
Emulating the Cretan School's classic style of the 15th and 16th centuries, Brother Simeon's new portrait of the Angelic Herald Saint Gabriel is based on a renowned angelic icon of this period found in the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai.
Rich colors, golden background, and exquisite details
Our icon prints are made with our exclusive LUMINA GOLD technology, "painted" in a giclée process (rather than the chemical process of photo prints) on 1200-dpi 12-color printers give a broad and rich spectrum of colors and detail and a stunning gold leaf appearance to the backgrounds. The inks are the longest-lasting on the market.
Following Byzantine iconographic tradition, the divine healer Saint Raphael is depicted in ceremonial robes modeled after Byzantine courtiers, carrying a staff and an orb marked with an X for the first letter for the Greek word for Christ. His name means "God heals," and he is invoked for healing in all circumstances and is the patron saint of travelers, nurses, physicians, and medical workers.
Since 1981 thousands of churches, schools, and families worldwide have looked to the Monastery Icons collection for traditional Christian art. From the smallest plaque to the largest mounted icon, each piece is a work of art – made to last, made to be treasured.
5 Reasons Why the Angels are Important
In these trying times, it’s wise to reflect on the great gifts we have received in our Faith and how they can help us meet the challenge of maintaining our religious life and inner peace. Let’s consider five points about the importance of one of these gifts: our heavenly helpers, the Holy Angels, whose feast days we celebrate this week (September 29 - Saint Michael the Archangel, October 2 - the Guardian Angels).
1 - The Angels are real.
This seems obvious, but do we relate to the angels like they are real? The Holy Scriptures, the writings of the saints, and Christians' experience for over 2,000 years demonstrate the countless ways that the holy angels watch over our lives, protecting and guiding the faithful, the Church, and the nations of the world.
“The whole air about us is filled with angels.”
- Saint John Chrysostom
2 - They have one task: to do the will of God.
And concerning us, what is that will? As Saint John the Baptist is described, we become earthly angels and heavenly men and women. The angels are ever attentive to protect us in our path through life, awaken our conscience, and lead us on the path to heaven.
“When tempted, invoke your angel. He is more eager to help you than you are to be helped.”
- Saint John Bosco
3 - They are the real "first line of defense."
At a time when evil seems to be having its way throughout our country and the rest of the world, we need to call upon the help of this heavenly army.
“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.”
- Prayer to Saint Michael, written by Pope Leo XIII
4 - We are all familiar with Bernhard Plockhorst’s famous painting of two toddlers crossing a rickety bridge in the forest, followed by a tall, attentive angel. And at the other extreme of angelic duties, the Russian monk-priest Saint Seraphim of Sarov taught that an archangel has the power to create and destroy worlds.
“How consoling it is to know that we have a spirit which from the womb to tomb never leaves us, even for an instant, not even when we dare to sin. And this heavenly spirit guides and protects us like a friend, a brother.”
- Saint Pio of Pietrelcina
5 - They are ever with us, always listening.
The more we call upon the help of the Holy Angels, the more it will become apparent to us. Let us be wise and seek their help!
“Make friends with the angels, who though invisible, are always with you.”
- Saint Francis de Sales
Monastery Icons plaques and prints rated to last up to 115 years
Good news! According to Wilhelm Imaging Research, the process by which we make our icon prints gives them a lifespan of up to 115 years. This is an American company with well-recognized expertise whose central research area is testing and rating photographic and digital printing materials. This rating specifically refers to the depth and fidelity of color; over a century from now, your Monastery Icons should be as radiant and richly colorful as they are today.
The prints on our plaques are covered with a protective non-yellowing laminate with a UV filter that supports this century of color longevity. This covering is non-glare, durable, and washable.
And even more...
In the past year, we’ve made another improvement to our plaques. Our prints are now mounted on a higher-density fiberwood sealed on both sides with a high-pressure laminate to protect the print from any deterioration.
These icons are made to last!
