Fish With Me
by Jesse Manibusan, Ken Canedo

This eclectic, fun collection of contemporary liturgical music from Ken Canedo and Jesse Manibusan is timely in content and uplifting in tone.

Back together again! Ken Canedo and Jesse Manibusan have once again joined forces to bring us an eclectic, fun, rocking collection of contemporary music. Speaking directly to the concerns of today—safety and reassurance in a time of terrorism, inclusiveness in a time of division, and hope in a time of uncertainty—Fish With Me couldn't be more timely.

A mix of fun and funky, smooth and slow, this eight-song collection hits all the right chords, in every sense of the word. Spanning the gamut from gentle guitar-based ballads and choral praise anthems to hard-rocking indie pop, Fish With Me offers a wealth of new music for liturgy, music that is geared toward the needs and skills of today's pastoral musicians.

The recording boasts collaboration from highly regarded producers Dean Baskerville and Jeramy Burchett as well as the enthusiastic voices of the children's choir of Portland Christian Center on a few tracks. Although the CD has a definite "praise band" feel, each song can be used effectively in the liturgy, and there are helpful suggestions in the songbook for how to do just that.

With songs well suited for the entire liturgical year, this impressive collection also fills a gap with several settings of well-known scripture passages that are rarely set to music: "In the Beginning" (John 1:1–14), "God So Loved" (John 3:16) and "I Give to You a Future" (Jeremiah 29:11–13). Other highlights include "Hold On to Love," a lovely ballad about love's power over darkness, and "All Are Welcome (All Belong)," a song with a straightforward and pertinent message. The songs of Fish With Me are sure to become favorites on the playlists of teenagers, young adults, families, and people of every generation.

List of Songs:
1. I Give to You a Future - 4:53
2. Fish with Me - 5:04
3.  Be with Me, Lord - 4:04

Jesse Manibusan:
The composer of the classic worship song “Open My Eyes,” Jesse has a special gift for getting people young and old to laugh, pray, and open their hearts to God.

Bio:
Jesse Manibusan is a singer, songwriter, catechist, storyteller, humorist, and evangelize. Well recognized throughout the country as a dynamic speaker and musician, Jesse shares from his heart the love of Christ and the call to live out our baptism in every aspect of life. He holds a master’s in multicultural ministries from the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, California.

The beloved anthem “Open My Eyes,” from his third album, Power of Peace, appears in Catholic and Protestant hymnals around the world and has been translated into many languages. His latest collection, Sing of Mary, is a prayerful homage to the Mother of Jesus. In 2012, he collaborated with Santiago Fernández on a bilingual collection entitled Unidos. In 2003 he collaborated with Ken Canedo on the very successful Love Never Fails collection, featuring “Bless the Lord,” “Love Never Fails,” and “Fish with Me.”

Jesse currently resides in Daly City, California, and is a volunteer at Good Shepherd Catholic School and Church.

Ken Canedo:
There’s high demand for a skill set like Ken’s. When he isn’t writing new contemporary Catholic music, he’s recording podcasts, writing books on the history of liturgical music, leading worship at his parish, and traveling the country giving workshops.

Bio:
Ken Canedo is an eminently qualified liturgical composer, author-historian, and workshop presenter. He started early, singing chant in the children’s choir at his Los Angeles parish when the Mass was still in Latin. He played guitar with his high school Folk Mass group in the late 1960s and piano on Bob Hurd’s 1973 debut album, O Let Him In. He has a master of divinity from St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California.

Ken’s first solo album, Take Some Time, was released in 1978. He has since released seven albums, including his latest, Fish With Me, a collaboration with Jesse Manibusan. His songs “Fly Like a Bird” and “Holy Spirit,” his many titles in the Spirit & Song hymnal, as well as his Mass of Glory, which he co-wrote with Bob Hurd, are popular with worshippers around the world. Ken has also collaborated with Jesse Manibusan on Love Never Fails. He is the author of Keep the Fire Burning: The Folk Mass Revolution, a history of contemporary Catholic music in the 1960s, and the sequel, From Mountains High, which covers the 1970s and early 1980s.

Ken offers workshops that support the liturgical formation of musicians, choirs, cantors, readers, and other ministers, as well as catechists, youth ministers, and youth groups. His “Folk Mass Nights” have become popular events where Boomer Catholics and their families sing through the liturgical music of the 1960s while Ken tells stories of those times.

Currently, Ken is a music development specialist for OCP. He is the voice of the popular Liturgy Podcast, a weekly planning resource on ocp.org. He is also a pastoral musician at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton, Oregon.
