The Easter Triduum, the three “high holy days” of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday is the heart and soul of the Christian faith. During these days, we celebrate in story and ritual the mystery of death and resurrection. The thirty-one pieces of music in this collection are intended to help us pray our way through the Easter mystery. While intended first for communal worship, this music can also be used for personal, individual prayer. The beauty and richness of this music will feed and nourish your faith.

 Dan Schutte conceived each piece in Glory in the Cross for particular moments in the three days of this one great liturgy. There are professionals, litanies, prayers of intercession, psalms, hymns, and acclamations for every rite -- over 30 selections in all. Dan weaves the pieces together into a unified tapestry of music that captures the spirit of the season, from Holy Thursday's mourning to Easter's "alleluia."
 
 Application beyond the Triduum
 Though intended for the Triduum, many of the pieces also can be used effectively in other liturgies. "Where Love Is Found" is well-suited for the wedding liturgy, and "Come to the River," for the sprinkling rite.

Dan Schutte:
Composer of “Here I Am, Lord” and many other beloved songs for worship, Dan hardly needs an introduction. He’s one of the best-known writers of Catholic liturgical music in the English-speaking world.  Bio
Dan Schutte is one of the best-known and most influential composers of Catholic music for liturgy in the English-speaking world. In addition to his Jesuit formation, Dan holds two master’s degrees, one in theology and one in liturgy, from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. He did graduate studies in music composition under the direction of Fr. Kevin Waters, SJ, at Seattle University. He has three honorary doctoral degrees for his contribution to the life of the Church.

Some of his most famous songs—“Here I Am, Lord,” “City of God,” and "Sing a New Song”—are from his years of collaboration with the St. Louis Jesuits. In 2015, OCP released the 40th-anniversary edition of Earthen Vessels, the group's best-selling second album. And in the fall of 2017, OCP celebrated the 40th anniversary of their classic Christmas album, Gentle Night, with a beautifully remixed and remastered commemorative edition. Collections like To Praise You and his Mass setting Mass of Christ the Savior continue to exhibit that enduring ability to reach into people’s hearts, young and old, and draw them into prayer. Dan has also released bilingual and Spanish versions of that beloved setting, titled Misa Cristo Salvador, with Jaime Cortez.

Dan has served as a liturgist and music director in various pastoral and academic settings. That experience, his deep knowledge of Sacred Scripture, and a strong sense of Ignatian spirituality form the basis of every event he leads. Dan spends a significant amount of time each year traveling to offer concerts, retreats, workshops, and parish missions to communities throughout the country. His ministry has had an enormous impact on the spiritual journey of millions of people.

Currently, Dan is a composer-in-residence at the University of San Francisco.
