WAITING
by Josh Blakesley

A relative newcomer, Josh Blakesley has always oozed talent. With this stunning sophomore release, that talent—songwriting prowess and soaring vocals, among others—have come to fruition. Serving up 12 punchy, inventive pop, rock, and funk tracks, Waiting gives convincing testimony that blessings really do come to those who wait on the Lord.

Song after song, Josh's pure, strong voice shines. Backing that great voice are some of the top musicians in Nashville—and in contemporary Christian music: Dave Cleveland (Steven Curtis Chapman, Twila Paris) and Scott Dente (Watermark) on guitar, Matt Pierson (Michael W. Smith, Rich Mullins) on bass, and Jonathan Smith (Kevin Max) on drums. Other contributors include Matt Maher, who co-wrote four of the songs.

"Be Lifted High" stands out. A funk gem à la Stevie Wonder, it's got an infectious groove, righteous keyboards, and incredible horns. Exalting God from beginning to end, the song ends like any good revival, with Josh calling out, "Can I get a witness?! Can I get an amen?!"

From “Pour Out My Heart,” a vigorous rock track, to “Sophie’s Song,” a delicate ballad written for his infant daughter, these songs came out of a time of waiting for Josh and family: waiting for the birth of their first child, waiting for a new home.

In a sense, we're all waiting. We're all exiles from our heavenly homeland, waiting for eternal union with Christ. Riveting, edgy and flush with heart, the songs on Josh's second album encourage us along the way.

On the Spiritandsong label, we get here the new cd of Christian pop-rocker Josh Blakesley. His songs have elements of artists like Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, and the likes.

With well-performed and catchy modern pop songs and some rockers, this album is a very good listen.

Josh Blakesley:
With five solo albums and a new Mass setting under his belt, Josh Blakesley is no longer a newcomer in contemporary Catholic music. He and his band appear at some of the biggest faith-based events around the country.

Bio:
Josh's Christian music journey began in 1992 while he was involved with a high school peer ministry team. During that time, he saw the power of God at work in the lives of teens. He vowed to be sold out for Christ and to use his gift of writing music to glorify God. In a world where well-produced secular music is dominant, he has dedicated himself to making quality contemporary Catholic music.

In 2003, Josh released his first solo album, Immersed, which included the popular anthem “Our God Is Good” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Immersed was followed by his sophomore album, Waiting, and his third album, Free. His fourth album, You Are the Light was released to iTunes in March of 2012 debuting at #16 on the Christian and Gospel charts. Even in This, Josh and his band’s latest album features songs co-written by Farren, Mia Fieldes, Marc Byrd and Sarah Hart.

Most recently, Josh collaborated with his guitar player, Grae McCullough, to write a new mass setting, paying homage to the hymns of the past and the culture of modern worship. This long-awaited project called Mass of Restoration is now available anywhere music can be downloaded.

Josh travels widely giving concerts and workshops at parishes, speaking at youth rallies and leading praise and worship. He is a veteran of many major events, including World Youth Day, NCYC, NCCYM, the Steubenville Youth Conference and more. Currently, Josh and his family live in Alexandria, Louisiana.
