More about this item

You Welcomed Me
by Tom

Tom Booth brings us inspiring music for our faith journey with this collection of eight contemporary Catholic songs suitable for both liturgy and reflection.
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.

—Matthew 25:40

The path Jesus calls us to is rarely an easy one. It requires a certain openness and trust in God, a willingness to be stretched beyond our comfort zones. Tom Booth's latest collection begins with a similar call, the call to live a life that is both courageous, humble, and ultimately not our own.

One of Catholic contemporary music's most well-known and established artists, Tom brings us a new album that is the fruit of a decade-long journey. You Welcomed Me is real, and it is raw, each song a calling to look outside ourselves and our comfort zones to welcome and serve the marginalized, the poor, the needy, the addicted, and the lost—"the least brothers"—at our table.

He opens the collection with "You Called Me," a retelling of David and Goliath's story that has a definite Americana feel à la Bob Dylan or Rich Mullins. The collection quickly transforms into a devotional process, inspiring us to live a saint-like life with “Do Something Beautiful for God.” Inspired by Mother Teresa, it features simple lyrics about how perfect our imperfection is and how we are all capable of doing something beautiful, like feeding the hungry or giving hope to the hopeless.

Overall, the music styles are eclectic, reflecting all the artists and albums Tom has enjoyed listening to and playing over the years. The bluesy “Pilgrim, Walk On,” co-written with Sarah Hart, reminds us that even in the darkest and most trying times, God is still with us, supporting us to follow his call. Contemplative, melodic, and singable, “Be Still and Know that I Am God” is another Booth-Hart collaboration based on Psalm 46:10 and makes a wonderful addition at Mass.

Song after song, album after album, Tom continues to offer inspiring music for our faith journey. You Welcomed Me carries on that tradition in a more honest, more heartfelt, more exposed way, a testament of one who is truly working to live out God's call in his life.

Looking back, Tom has written so many songs, touched so many lives, mentored so many young musicians. This legendary contemporary Catholic composer has a legacy to be proud of.

Tom Booth has been composing music for four decades. At the age of 17, he encountered the love of God in a personal and mystical way, and his life’s focus changed forever. His journey led him to the University of Arizona (Go Cats!), where he majored in music history and minored in religious studies. It was also the beginning of his work in parish ministry. Since then, Tom has spent years helping young people and families discover God’s love through music and worship.

Tom has written countless songs for prayer, worship, liturgy, personal reflection, an incredibly gifted composer, and a musician. He has composed and performed songs for Mother Teresa and Pope Saint John Paul II. He has released nine collections as a solo artist, including You Welcomed Me, his latest. His song “By the Love of God” was the theme song for the 2013 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC). Classic songs like “I Will Choose Christ,” “Sacred Silence,” and “Here I Am” have crossed over into the mainstream worship market. His trophy case includes numerous Dove, Unity, and Grammy Award nominations.

Tom brings his powerful performing style to concerts, parish missions, conferences, youth events, mixing stories, songs, and prayers to create unforgettable experiences for audiences worldwide. He is a veteran of major national and international conferences and gatherings.

Currently, Tom resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he fulfills his primary ministry: serving his wife and children. He is also a member of OCP’s music development team, nurturing budding contemporary Catholic composers.
